The new free Wollongong Waste app is here and is set to make access to all things waste-related a scroll in the park!
The app provides residents quick, easy and up-to-date access to Council’s recycling and waste services. Designed specifically for Wollongong residents, features include:
- a personalised bin collection calendar
- reporting avenue for illegal dumping
- an A-Z guide of Waste and Recycling
- booking a household clean-up
- booking bin repairs and much more.
You can also find in-depth information on which of the three (green, yellow and red-lidded) household bins to use, and details on what’s accepted at the Community Recycling Centre at Kembla Grange.
Residents can download the app by simply searching for ‘Wollongong Waste’ from the App Store for Apple devices or Google Play for Android devices.
Wollongong City Council’s Director Infrastructure and Works Joanne Page said the app is a handy tool to find waste information quickly and easily without the need to search through Council’s website.
“We know it’s important for our community to access our services easily and the app allows a simple way to do so. It can be used to notify a missed bin service or requesting bin replacements and resizes,” she said.
“As well as a reporting tool, you can also learn more about waste, especially what can go in each bin. With our A-Z guide, you can find out if the pizza box can go in the green-lidded bin (it can), if your tomato sauce bottle can be recycled (it can) or what household items should be taken to the Community Recycling Centre.”
The app provides the latest information on recycling and reduces the need for a brochure that quickly goes out of date. Although printed information will continue to be available, the app encourages the use of digital resources to help minimise our printed footprint and make Wollongong a more sustainable community.
“For our residents with a lot on their minds, there is even a personalised bin collection calendar where you can set yourself a weekly reminder to take out your bins – and which bins too! There is a lot to take advantage of that can make things a little easier, so download the free app today,” Ms Page said.
