Expired Flare Collection Events

The expired flares collection program provides the boating community with an opportunity to safely dispose of their out-of-date flares. Across the Wollongong LGA, there are disposal drop off events to assist residents in disposing of expired flares. Most flares have a use-by date of 3 years, and they must be replaced before the expiry date. Flares contain explosive matter which makes safe and legal disposal difficult. Please see below for more information on your closest drop off location and the requirements.

Event Details:

  • Bellambi Boat Ramp, Robert Cram Drive – Friday 25th April 2025 12:00pm – 1:30pm

What is a flare?

A flare is a type of distress signal that you ignite to let people know you’re in trouble and to show rescuers where you are. Flares are best used when you believe there’s a chance of them being seen. Find more information on Expired marine flare disposal.
