Service Changes During the Festive Season

On behalf of Wollongong City Council and Remondis Harbour Cities, we wish you a happy and prosperous holiday season!

The bin schedule will be disrupted this holiday season with Christmas Day falling on a Wednesday. Bins will not be collected on Christmas Day.

Please put your bins out as normal and they will be collected on the days following Christmas.

The Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Park (including the Community Recycling Centre) will also be closed on Christmas Day.

Cardboard and Soft Plastics Drop-off Events

Wollongong City Council is providing FREE Cardboard, Household Recycling and Soft Plastics Drop-Off Events across the Wollongong LGA.

These events are being held to assist residents to recycle excess cardboard, household recycling and soft plastics this holiday season.

Drop-off locations:

  • Fred Finch Park, Berkeley (Entry from Bedford St) – Friday, 27th of December 2024 from 7:30 am to 12 noon
  • Rex Jackson Park, Helensburgh (Entry from Walker St or Robertson St) – Saturday, 28th of December 2024 from 7:30 am to 12 noon
  • Ziems Park, Corrimal (Entry from Short St) – Monday, 30th of December 2024 from 7:30 am to 12 noon

What can you bring?

  • Flattened cardboard
  • Plastic bags: clear and coloured
  • Biscuit and snack wrappers
  • Chip packets and other silver-lined snack wrappers
  • Fresh and frozen food wrappers/bags
  • Pasta bags, rice bags (both plastic and woven types), bread bags, and cereal liners
  • Cling wrap, bubble wrap, and snap lock zip bags
  • Document sleeves, mail satchels, and carrier bags
  • Plastic pet food bags
  • Steel & Tin Cans
  • Aluminium Cans, Trays & Clean Foil
  • Rigid Plastic Containers, including Lids
  • Glass Bottles & Jars
  • Milk & Juice Cartons

Important Reminder: Ensure your plastics are clean, empty, and dry before bringing them to the event.

What will not be accepted?

  • Wrapping paper
  • Polystyrene foam
  • Food soiled cardboard
  • Unflattened cardboard boxes
  • Loose soft plastics (they must be bagged)
  • Food organics and garden organics
  • Clothing and linen

Attending these events

  • Soft plastic recyclables, household recycling & cardboard will need to be separated before attending the event.
  • Loose soft plastics will not be accepted, all soft plastics must be secured in a larger plastic bag.
  • Drive into the car park and queue in your vehicle for your turn to unload. We will try to include as many people as possible, but if queues become too long, some vehicles could be turned away.
  • For everyone’s safety, please stay in your vehicle except when untying a load. Staff will be on hand to help.
  • Recycling can be walked in, but it is preferred that you attend in a vehicle if possible. If you come on foot, please see the site supervisor for safe access.
  • Please carry proof that you live in the Wollongong City Council area, such as a driver’s license.

 

What are soft plastics? These are plastics which can be easily scrunched into a ball in your hand.
