The Power of FOGO
Did you know that food scraps make up a significant portion of landfill waste? Instead of sending your food scraps to the landfill, you can make a positive impact on the environment by using your FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) bin.
What Can You Put in Your FOGO Bin?
Your FOGO bin is for organic waste—things that are compostable and can be turned into compost or nutrient-rich soil. Here’s what you can add:
- fruit & vegetable scraps
- take away food
- meat & bones (raw or cooked)
- bread, cakes, pasta & rice
- loose tea leaves & coffee grounds
- spoiled food (removed from packaging)
- eggshells, eggs & dairy products
- flowers and herbs
- seafood (shells, bones)
- grass clippings, leaves & small branches
- compostable liners (limited)
- Compostable bags (provided by Council AS4736) or purchased according to our Compostable Liner Guide
- Paper towel (limited) used to collect and transfer food waste to the FOGO
Why Use FOGO?
By diverting food scraps and garden waste from landfill, we can reduce the methane emissions that contribute to climate change. Plus, organic waste that breaks down in landfill can pollute our air and water, whereas FOGO waste is transformed into soil—helping to enrich gardens and grow healthy plants.
Together, we can make a significant difference! Let’s turn our food scraps into something positive for the planet—use your FOGO bin today!
